Hurricane Melissa made landfall in eastern Cuba as a major category three storm, causing widespread damage, flooding, and evacuations of over 735,000 people.

In Honduras, an attempted parliamentary coup by a small group of deputies was reported amid preparations for upcoming elections, with the ruling party's candidate, Richie Moncada, currently leading the polls, raising concerns over potential disruptions and challenges to the electoral process.
