Venezuela
The Acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, received this Friday, in Caracas, the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro.
This was the first direct meeting between the two, and it also makes Petro the first head of state to meet with Rodríguez, since she assumed power after the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
The agenda focused mainly on border security to confront drug trafficking, and also included economic and energy issues such as the possible purchase of Venezuelan gas, the reactivation of a binational gas pipeline, and the promotion of bilateral trading.
Argentina
In Argentina, for the first time in history, the government banned accredited journalists from entering the Casa Rosada under the excuse of "combating illegal espionage".
Experts claim that the far-right, pro-U.S. leader Milei has chosen journalism as an enemy for following the recent publication of corruption cases involving ministers and officials of his government. Additionally, the ban on the press suspiciously coincided with a visit to Milley at the Casa Rosada by Peter Thiel, the American billionaire who may have gone to sell him a mass surveillance service.
Peru
And in Peru, the Social Democratic presidential candidate Roberto Sánchez announced that if he reaches the presidency, he will support Peru's integration to BRICS.
According to preliminary official results, Sánchez is in second place, and if that position is confirmed by the electoral authorities, he would face the right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori, daughter of the dictator Alberto Fujimori, in the second round scheduled for June 7.
