Venezuela - ICJ - Hague

In the final session of the oral hearings at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Venezuela's Acting President, Delcy Rodriguez, led Venezuela's closing arguments in the territorial dispute with Guyana over the Esequibo region.

The Venezuelan leader, who arrived in the Netherlands yesterday for that purpose, is defending the country's historical rights and the validity of the 1966 Geneva Agreement as the only legitimate mechanism to resolve this dispute.

Delcy Rodriguez does not recognize the International Court of Justice, as Guyana is unilaterally attempting to do, and emphasizes that Venezuela is the only legitimate holder of the Esequibo territory. The final ruling will take months.

Ecuador - trial - Lenin Moreno

This Monday, the corruption trial against former Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno begins in Ecuador. He is accused of receiving around 76 million dollars in bribes related to the construction of the country's largest hydroelectric plant, Coca-Cola Sinclair.

The trial has generated a storm of criticism. There are allegations of a supposed agreement between Moreno and the pro-United States neoliberal government of Daniel Novoa, which would allegedly provide judicial guarantees in exchange for maintaining his political offensive against former president Rafael Correa, who promoted Moreno to the presidency only for Moreno, according to Correa, to later betray him and launch a witch hunt against him and the entire Correismo leadership.

China - United States

And China confirms President Trump's visit to meet with his counterpart Xi Jinping. The meeting, scheduled from Wednesday through Friday of this week, marks the first visit by a U.S. president to Chinese soil since 2017, when Trump visited the country during his first term and comes amid a context of fragile stability between the world's two largest economies after months of tariffs warfare.
