Peru
In Peru, relatives of victims of state repression are calling for nationwide protests against Keiko Fugimori, who assumes the presidency today. Families of people killed during periods of state repression in the eighties, nineties, and the two thousands, including under the governments of Alberto Fugimori, Dina Boluarte, and José Jeri, have organized a candlelight vigil, a nationwide march, and an alternative civic parade to protest Keiko Fujimori's inauguration this Tuesday. They describe her presidency as illegitimate and fraudulent. Iran has rejected US claims that Washington and Teheran are engaged in extensive negotiations.
Middle East-United States
Iranian officials insist there are no direct talks with The United States. Following three nights of relative calm in military activity, Teheran said the only communication channel currently open is through Oman, focusing on arrangements related to maritime traffic in the Strait Of Hormuz.
Europe
And the impact of climate change continues to be felt across Southern Europe. More than 325,000 people have now been evacuated in France and Spain because of devastating wildfires. Weather forecasters are also warning that another wave of extreme heat is expected to sweep across much of France.
