Colombia

More than 48 hours after the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck western Colombia, residents of the Department of Chocó are denouncing the absence of the far-right pro-U.S. government of Abelardo de la Espriella, as well as the lack of international aid, apart from assistance from the United States.

This has led to accusations that foreign aid is being given an ideological character.

The death toll has already surpassed 200, while more than 3,000 people have been injured and thousands are reported missing, according to the latest reports from the rescue operation which continues against the clock in search of more people trapped beneath the rubble.

Argentina

In Argentina, the far-right pro-U.S. President Javier Milei continues to fail to implement the university funding law.

In response, teaching and non-teaching staff, along with students, are calling for a new mass demonstration, opening another front in the struggle against the libertarian president whose approval ratings continue to fall.

According to polls, two out of every three Argentines disapprove of his administration.

Solar eclipse

And today in Europe, especially in Spain and France, people are preparing to witness a total solar eclipse this afternoon.

During the totality phase, when the sun will be completely obscured by the moon, darkness will last anywhere from a few seconds to nearly two minutes. The next one will take place on August 2, 2027.
