Colombia
In Colombia, citizens are organizing themselves to distribute aid in areas affected by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake at the El Campín Stadium in Bogotá, while denouncing the lack of assistance from the government of the far-right pro-US President de la Espriella.
The death toll from the earthquake has now risen to more than 281, with 308,000 injured and 379 people still missing.
In the department of El Chocó, more than 13,000 people have been affected, a figure surpassed only by the 36,000 affected in El Valle del Cauca.
Venezuela
Venezuelan Acting President Delce Rodríguez and international consortiums have signed agreements aimed at further developing the country's natural gas sector.
The President is seeking to attract international capital and technology to revive energy production, increase state revenues, and turn Venezuela into a major gas exporter.
Brazil
And in Brazil, President Lula launched his electoral campaign in Vila Euclides, in the state of São Paulo, in the southeast of the country.
It was there that, in the late 1970s, metal worker strikes took place, from which Lula emerged as a union leader and began his political career.
Lula continues to lead in the polls ahead of the November presidential election, and he has managed to break a legislative deadlock in Congress over bills that he considers important to his re-election.
